David J. Thompson
11/19/1958 – 04/11/2026
David James Thompson, a cherished brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital North in Lutz, Florida, after a sudden but brief illness. Born on November 19, 1958, in Troy, NY, David was known for his expansive knowledge in the construction and carpentry field, his love of country music, and his gift for connection. He cherished every opportunity to socialize, share stories, laugh, and create lasting memories with those he loved—a reflection of his spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him.
His dedication to family was evident throughout his life, as he embraced the roles of loving husband and devoted father with strength, compassion, loyalty, and deep love. He found great joy in being present for his family—whether through everyday conversations, sharing meals, offering guidance, or simply being there when he was needed most. David’s love for family extended beyond daily life as he thrived in creating lasting bonds and generously sharing his wisdom, not only with his daughter and grandchildren but with all younger generations who benefited from his guidance, experience, and steady presence.
One of David’s greatest passions was his work in construction and carpentry, where his skills and knowledge were well respected. In retirement, he brought that same wisdom and work ethic to his role as an associate at Home Depot, where he was appreciated by coworkers and customers alike, many of whom lovingly honored his memory after his passing. He took pride in building and fixing things with his hands, and there was rarely a project he couldn’t figure out or complete. Outside of work, he found joy in cooking and especially in spending time with others—whether gathering with family or sharing stories with friends. These moments were where he felt most himself and where he made his greatest impact.
David leaves behind his daughter, Jessica Brown (Jason DuPont) of Land O Lakes, Florida; grandchildren, Arrhianna Franz, Ameliah Franz, Carson DuPont and Damian DuPont; his sisters, Mary Lou & Bill Murray of Ocala, FL; Suzanne & David Scott of Stillwater, NY; Emmalean & Tom Oliver of Elgin, TX; Leatrice Coonradt & James W. Leary, Jr. of Saratoga Springs, NY; Shirley & James Freebern of North Port, FL; Kathleen & Jeff Medlock of Bedford, IN; Rita LaPlante Thompson of Speigletown, NY; brother, Jude Thompson of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews—all of whom will forever cherish the memories of his unconditional love and guidance.
He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Sheryl Thompson; parents, Harry and Muriel Thompson; brothers, Harry J. “Butch” Thompson Jr., John “Jack” Thompson, and Wayne M. Thompson; sister, Margaret Thompson; and brother-in-law, William Pregent.
David’s presence will be deeply missed, but his love, lessons, and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though his time here was not long enough for those who loved him, the impact he made will be lasting and immeasurable. His spirit will live on in every shared memory, every lesson passed down, and every moment of kindness inspired by his life. His strength, wisdom, and the memories he created will be carried forward through generations of family who will forever feel his influence. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and love that will not be forgotten.
His guidance was firm, his love was steady, and his lessons will last a lifetime.

He will forever be missed in the house its never going to be the same im just happy him and grandma are together and happy.

Beautifully written Jessica- Uncle Dave was my most favorite uncle on my dad’s side of the family. I could sit for hours listening to him talk and share stories and advice. The good lord took him hand and led him home for eternity to be reunited with so many loved ones that have gone before him. Thanks for the memories and most of all the love. You sure are missed beyond words Uncle Dave. Give my dad a hug from me.
