cremation Pinellas County FL

Serving Pinellas County families from our office at 326 S Falkenburg Road, Tampa — about thirty minutes from St. Petersburg across the Howard Frankland.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

One Price. $795. Nothing Added Later.

A cremation quote should be a number, not a starting point. Too many Pinellas families are told one figure on the phone and shown another on the invoice, once the permit fee, the transportation, the container, and the paperwork charges have all been added back in. We’d rather just show you the list.

Transfer Into Our Care

Our own staff brings your loved one into our care from wherever they are — hospital, hospice, care facility, or home. Included throughout Pinellas within 40 miles of our office.

Refrigeration

Dignified refrigerated care for up to 10 days, as Florida law requires.

cremation fee

Cremation Permit Fee

Every Pinellas cremation requires District 6 Medical Examiner approval, and that fee is part of the $795 — not a line item you discover later.

All Required Paperwork

Death certificate filing, state and county authorizations, and Social Security notification handled by our staff.

Return of Ashes

Your loved one is returned in a Seashore temporary container, ready for pickup or transfer to an urn of your choosing.

Certified copies of the death certificate are issued by the Florida Department of Health and are $15 per copy. Crematory fee covered up to 399 lbs. Full itemized pricing is available in our General Price List.

IF DEATH HAS JUST OCCURRED

The First Few Hours: What Happens, and
What You Need to Do

Almost nothing is required of you in the first few hours. Here’s what happens depending on where your loved one passed, and the one small thing we need from you in each case.

The hospital will notify the attending physician and move your loved one into their care area. The single thing they need from you is the name of the provider you’ve chosen. Ask for the nursing supervisor or security staff, and give them our name and number — Affordable Cremations of Central Florida, 813-647-3689. Once they have that, we take over: we contact the hospital directly, complete the release, and arrange the transfer ourselves.

A hospice nurse will make the official pronouncement, and staff will then ask which provider you’ve chosen. Give them our name and number and nothing further is needed from you. We coordinate transfers from the Suncoast Hospice care centers in Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, and St. Petersburg, from the inpatient hospice units in Largo and Dunedin, and from hospice patients being cared for at home.

If your loved one was under hospice care, call the hospice line first. If not, call 911 — Florida requires that an unexpected death be reported. When first responders arrive, give them our name and phone number and ask them to call us directly; law enforcement coordinates the release with us on scene. Once the scene is cleared and the Medical Examiner has released the case, our transfer team is typically there within 90 minutes.

Sudden, unexpected, or unattended deaths fall under the District 6 Medical Examiner, whose office is on Ulmerton Road in Largo. Your loved one will be taken there. You don’t need to go to Largo, call them, or file anything — we handle the release documentation directly with their office and bring your loved one into our care as soon as they authorize it.

Not sure which of these applies?
Call us. We’ll walk you through it in five minutes, any hour.

THE PROCESS

How the Cremation Works in Pinellas County

Our own staff makes the transfer and provides refrigerated care. The cremation itself is carried out at a licensed crematory we work with directly, under identification procedures we control and document. At every stage, there is one company answerable to you and one number to call.

How We Make Certain It's Your Loved One

Identification starts the moment our transfer team arrives, when a unique identification band is placed with your loved one. That band stays with them through refrigerated care, and through paperwork.

Before any cremation takes place, our team copies and compares every identifying document against your loved one and against that band. The crematory issues a metal ID tag with a unique number, that is assigned to the loved one. If anything doesn’t match — a misspelled name, a wrong date, a single transposed digit — the cremation stops. Nothing proceeds until the discrepancy is resolved and every piece of information has been re-verified.

Your family can request a copy of this document from us if you wish.

Working With Local Authorities

Coordinating With the District 6 Medical Examiner in Largo

Pinellas County is served by the District Six Medical Examiner’s Office at the Forensic Science Center on Ulmerton Road in Largo, which also covers Pasco County. Every cremation of a person who died in Pinellas — not only investigated deaths — requires their written approval before it can proceed. We file these requests electronically and know what District 6 needs in order to approve without a second round of questions.

Why Pinellas County Families Call Us

A real person, at any hour

When calling 813-647-3689 at any hour, callers reach the individual directly managing care. If the owner is on another line, a trained team answers right away to avoid voicemail entirely.

One company answerable to you

Our own staff makes every transfer and provides refrigerated care. The cremation is performed at a licensed crematory we work with directly, and the identification process we run travels with your loved one through it. One company, one number, one person accountable.

A price you can actually plan around

$795, complete. The Florida state average for direct cremation is more than double that, and much of the gap is made up of charges that were never mentioned in the original quote. We'd rather compete on the number than on what we can add to it later.

Built for families who aren't nearby

Pinellas has one of the oldest populations in the country, and a great many families here are managing arrangements from another state. Our entire process runs online with electronic signatures, and we can ship cremated remains securely to family anywhere in the country. You don't need to fly down to sign paperwork.

Affordable Cremations were wonderful to work with in such a difficult situation. I called around, with Affordable being the 1st call, and NOT the least expensive either (not by much), but the way Noah handled everything from answering the phone to the when he handed me my mothers remains, he was caring and compassionate. He was also very informative, patient, and helpful in this very difficult time for me. He always made me feel like my mother, and myself, were in caring, trusted hands. Thanks again Noah, you made a difference and helped more then you know. - GIB.

It is impossible to put into words just how thankful I am that Noah and his staff made this process so simple. At the single worst time of my life, Affordable Cremations was a godsend. They are everything they advertise. The respect they demonstrated, and the dignity with which they treated my dad, was beyond reproach. Thank you for taking care of us so gracefully. I am eternally grateful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct cremation with Affordable Cremations of Central Florida is $795 for Pinellas County families. That covers transfer from the place of passing, refrigerated care, the alternative cremation container, the cremation itself, the District 6 Medical Examiner approval fee, and return of the cremated remains. Certified copies of the death certificate are billed at the state’s cost. The Florida state average for direct cremation is more than double this figure.

Yes. Under Florida Statute 406.11, the District 6 Medical Examiner must review the certified cause of death and issue written approval before any cremation can take place — even when the death was fully expected and the Medical Examiner never investigated. The office is on Ulmerton Road in Largo and serves both Pinellas and Pasco counties. We file the request electronically through Florida’s EDRS system as soon as the physician certifies, and the fee is included in our $795.

Most families receive their loved one’s cremated remains and death certificates within 7 to 10 business days. The cremation itself takes only a few hours. What sets the timeline is how quickly the attending physician signs the medical portion of the death certificate, and how quickly District 6 issues approval afterward. Florida law also requires 48 hours to pass between death and cremation.

The District 6 Medical Examiner takes jurisdiction when a death is sudden, unexpected, unattended, or potentially non-natural. If your loved one is at the Forensic Science Center on Ulmerton Road, you don’t need to go there or file anything yourself. We complete the release authorization on your behalf, coordinate directly with their staff, and bring your loved one into our care as soon as they’re released.

Yes — we serve every community in Pinellas County, from Tierra Verde and St. Pete Beach through Largo and Clearwater up to Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs. Transfer is included in the $795 throughout most of the county. For far north Pinellas there may be a small travel charge, which we’ll tell you about upfront rather than adding it to an invoice afterward.

Yes. We transfer from hospitals, hospice care centers, nursing homes, and assisted living communities throughout Pinellas, including Morton Plant, Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin, St. Anthony’s, Orlando Health Bayfront, the HCA Florida hospitals in Largo and St. Petersburg, and the Suncoast Hospice care centers. Give the facility our name and phone number — ask for the nursing supervisor or security staff at a hospital — and we handle the release directly with them.

Absolutely. Direct cremation simply means the cremation happens without a viewing or funeral service beforehand. Many Pinellas families choose direct cremation and then hold a memorial, a celebration of life, or a scattering weeks or months later — at a church, on the water, at a condo clubhouse, or at home. It gives you time to gather everyone without the cost or the pressure of a compressed schedule.

Yes, and Pinellas families have an advantage here: Bay Pines National Cemetery is in the county. A veteran discharged under honorable conditions is eligible for burial or interment in a national cemetery, provided the family can produce the DD-214. Eligible veterans are also entitled to a United States burial flag and a government-furnished grave marker, at no cost to the family. A veteran’s spouse may be buried or interred alongside them. We help you locate the DD-214 if you don’t have it and coordinate with the cemetery.

Yes, and most Pinellas families do. The full arrangement process runs online with electronic signatures, so you can complete authorizations, choose your package, and pay without leaving home — or from another state. If you’d prefer to meet in person, our office at 326 S Falkenburg Road in Tampa is about thirty minutes from St. Petersburg across the Howard Frankland.

Usually, yes — but the process changes. Medical Examiner jurisdiction and cremation authority follow the place of death, so a death outside Florida falls under that state’s rules and a provider licensed there. What we can often do is coordinate the return of cremated remains to Florida. Call us and we’ll tell you honestly what we can and can’t do for your situation.
